Retinal Diseases

The retina is a layer of tissue in the back of your eye that senses light and sends images via the optic nerve to your brain. In the center of this nerve tissue is the macula, the area of the retina that provides the sharp, central vision needed for reading, driving and seeing fine detail.

Retinal disorders cause changes in this vital tissue which can affect your vision, and in some cases can be serious enough to cause blindness. Many retinal diseases share common symptoms and treatments, but each has unique characteristics. The goal of retinal disease treatments is to stop or slow disease progression and preserve, improve, or restore vision.
